THIS WEEK IN COMBAT SPORTS~!: ISSUE 28: THE "LYN WAS RIGHT EDITION"

Written By James Matthews.
Edited By: Heinekenrana.
Starring: Stephan Tremoni, Alanis Timona, Iowa Cubs Fan and Wolf.
AND THE REST OF TEAM REAL DEAL.

So, what's been up with the newsletter?

Well, good question. I haven't done one in a while because of two reasons.

1. I really grew tired of Pro Wrestling. Particularly after this past Monday's Raw, I've no realized that WWE has no fucking clue what they are doing because they don't understand wrestling logic. They understand Movie Logic.

2. I came to the realization that MMA sucks. I can't watch a lot of it anymore because then I get pissed from all the jackasses running around with mohawks and bald heads with shitty tattoos in Affliction T-Shirts.

That being said, there are going to be some ground rules laid down.

1. News will now be done in panel format.

People really seemed to like this, and I'm taking suggestions for people to join in.

Wish list:
Fire
Rap
Kali to talk shit about the WWE Divas
Dae
Cheech
Jamie's Brother In Law Christian who may rival Karl Stern for wrestling knowledge.

2. These things are going to be shorter, and may have two or three times an issue where an AIM/Facebook Chat is used as something.

3. THERE WILL BE NO MENTION OF MY GIRLFRIEND IN THIS NEWSLETTER.

I'm noticing a habit where, every time I mention a girlfriend in a newsletter, we end up breaking up. That and I already fired her.

4. We changed the name back.

Just because. Although I may take suggestions for a new news letter name.

5. Promote my stuff.

This means you have to promote my stuff. I may even set up a Facebook deal. That doesn't mean you have to read it.

6. Don't be an egotistical dumbass.

Warning: E-Fed talk.

Bottom line. Some of you have really gone off the deep end. Now I can't name these people by name because then I'll get in trouble, so I'll just call them "ShoeString" Now String, I'm gonna lay this out for you simple.

I backed you a long time ago when nobody in that god forsaken fed liked you. I said you had good work. And I read your stuff and liked it.

So this is me talking to you. Not Takeshi talking to your stupid character. This is James Matthews talking to whatever the hell your name is. You need to grow up and stop taking this so seriously. I did. You can too.

7: Fuck Wade Keller.

That's it.

And now, for some talk about Combat Sports:

SHANE MOSELY VS. SERGIO MORA PREVIEW:
By Stephan Tremoni.

Sergio Mora wins by destruction. No one cares. NO BUYS.

The Ballad Of Tifa Christensen.
By Alanis Timona.

So, Jamie informed me that he created an E-Fed character based off of me. I'm flattered. Honestly. However since the name seems weird and none of you know the backstory Jamie has asked me to explain it.

It was the year 2002. I had a Sega Dreamcast and was convinced this thing was going to be a big deal still while I was playing my copy of Fire Pro D. I was also teaching in California. One of the classes we had was called SSR. You see one of the governors of California was convinced that making kids read 30 minutes a day was going to help out English and other scores so that we could get more funding. Well they were wrong. But I saw that Jamie was coming back to the school I was teaching at. Now, Jamie had been at some other school the previous two semesters so I decided to take it upon myself to see to it that he wound up in my SSR class. I mean, I need someone to do my work for me...err, talk to. So one day he walks in. He would always walk fast from his last class to make sure he got a copy of the newspaper despite the fact that I always kept a copy for him. So he walks in and I this is way before anyone else showed up to the room. So he comes to my desk like normal and I tell him...

"Hey, I need your help."

"Okay." He says. "What do you need?"

"As you know I've been competing in Muay Thai for a while now, and I think it's time for me to go full on into MMA."

"Okay."

"But I don't want to use my real name, so I need a fake name to use."

Now, this needs some explaining here. Back in 2002, we didn't have a commission overseeing MMA. In fact, it was banned. It was banned until 2006. So shows were unsanctioned and usually on Indian Reservations. King Of The Cage, I'm looking at you. So it would be very easy to run an unsanctioned show in California if you knew what you were doing. Plus you also have to understand something else about where we live.

California, for all that it is reported to be by the media, is in fact, a mostly Republican state. There are in fact, more registered Republicans than Democrats. And in the area where we live, it's almost all Republicans. It's a very right wing, Republican, god fearing area that reads the bible daily and asks god for the answers to everything. So If they find out a local high school teacher is going around fighting in MMA, there would be a media backlash and I would probably get fired. And since money in MMA at the time wasn't that good, I wasn't exactly going to make a lot of money fighting. So I needed an alias.

"Well...I always joke around you look like Tifa Lockhart"

This was a running gag because I have long black hair. And I guess because...I like to kick things.

"And you're mothers maiden name is Christensen right? How about Tifa Christensen?"

"...I like it."

And as such, that name and "Tifa" in general became a nickname for me in someway.

It's better than naming your kid Vincent Valentine...STOP LAUGHING AT ME.

Alanis Timona is a professional Muay Thai Kickboxer and Teacher and has an MMA record of 2-0. She really does look like Tifa Lockhart if Tifa Lockhart was 6'1" 170 pounds. She enjoys choking me out in her spare time and let it be known this is the last time I will ever have to explain one of my characters ever.

Newz:

Right, now time for the news, and with me today is Message Boarder and Iowa based Cubs Fan Iowa Cubs Fan

Me
I am regretting being a Cubs fan you know that

James
As are a lot of people.

Me
It's like being a willing brain damage victim
Oh wait

James
It's actually funny we do this now.
Because the Giants are playing the dodgers right now.

Me
Oh god
Who is winning that by the way?

James
ANd they are tied for the West.
Tied. 0-0 in the first.

Me
Oh, I can't cry yet then
But you can bet I will if the Giants start scoring runs

James
They won't. They hit in bunches. Plus Zito's pitching, but we should stop talking baseball because D's fallen asleep by now reading.
I guess we should start with Matt Hardy.
He's gone mental apparently, well even more so than usual.

Me
So I've heard
He's turning into Randy Moss, minus a contract dispute
But it seems like Matt Hardy has more excuses now than a pathological liar doesJames
He's Randy Moss if Randy Moss went on a diet of nothing but Burger King and Chinese Buffet.
His gut has gotten enormous. SO much so that Michael Hayes yelled at him about it.
Lets' think about that.

Me
He's probably jealous Hardy's gut is starting to rival his for size

James
You know what the worst part is of all this?

Me
Matt Hardy used to be talented, a good worker and not such a giant pain in the ass?

James
That too.

Me
Oh joy, there's more to this

James
Matt Hardy proved Lyn right.
He's just a total fucking geek for himself.

Me
Yeah, he is. Instead of trying to work to help others, he just does...this

James
So anyways Matt, good luck on your future run as TNA World Champion.

Me
Have you ever thought perhaps WCW v 2.0 is running the same course as 1.0?

James
How so?

Me
They both grew to a certain extent on talent they found, ten began slow integration of WWF castoffs in the mid card, then hit castoffs in the world tile range, began to suck hard at the worst possible time, and guess what?
It's been nearly ten years since WCW 1.0 died right before WM XVII
And what WM are we heading towards next year?

James
...
27, Yes?

Me
I say history repeats itself, move for move

James
And the ten year anniversary of Nitro and ECW ending.

Me
We get to see VKM make jokes about Jeff Jarrett on the Raw before WM again!
Oh joy! Just what I always didn't want, again!

9:46pmJames
To be fair.
Jeff Jarrett is an ass.

Me
Of course, but I still don't care about VKM making finger quotes and dumb jokes about him

James
True, moving on to the movies, Iowa, are there any movies you haven't seen lately?

Me
All of them, and I am not kidding when I say that. I am horrible about seeing movies on DVD, TV, in the theater, or on Laser disc if you can remember the format

James
So I take it you didn't go see Legendary with the twelve other people that went this weekend?

Me
Eleven. Cena doesn't count as someone who went to see it
James
Yeah. And Patricia Clarkson. So that's ten.
And the kid from Californication. She was in it too.

9:49pmMe
Danny Glover thankfully had cotton candy and ran away

James
It did $135,000 over the weekend, or $764 per theatre, in 177 locations around the country.
A tank job of monumental proportions.
You'd think WWE would learn something by now, I mean say what you will about Vince McMahon...and many people do, he doesn't take giving up easily.

9:51pmMe
When has he ever given up on anything easily?
I seriously cannot remember a time

James
...
WBF?
He wanted a second season of the XFL before he had to be talked out of it.

Me
Thanks for reminding me of the WBF
And the XFL. I seriously want to cry now

James
I wonder what Gary Strydom and Rod Smart are doing now.

Me
I would suggest drinking heavily, but that's my solution to 50% of life's problems

James
Umm...did you watch NXT last Tuesday?

Me
No I didn't. Did I miss something of importance?

James
You missed Aksana cutting THE worst promo ever.

Me
That's quite a lofty title to put to a promo

James
She started okay and then devolved into fast speakingLlithuanian before running off a string of lines that sounded like...
Someone gave her a piece of paper right?
And then she memorized it and then didn't convert it to first person.
"She loves her home, she loves her dog. Let me Entertaimnetend You." ->>> WAT? editor's note

Me
All I can think about is Caboose from Red Vs. Blue reading his stage cues in season 3
And yet this sounds WORSE

James
A fine show. Much better than NXT.
Entertainmented me...
Well she did.

Me
I officially hate reality TV more since NXT is disguised reality TV
James
Does that mean we are a hot tub and a murder away from this becoming Megan Wants A Millionaire? Because this might be our best chance to get rid of Kelly Kelly.

Me
I think we would need more than the hot tub and the murder, but it'd be a good start. Can we also take out McCool somehow with this plot?

James
Sure.
Wait, we'd have to get through Undertaker.

Me
Then I am completely on board
I've got DDP on speed dial for just this occasion

James
The worst part about NXT was there was a dance contest. Right?
So Cole wears like, pink dance slippers and shit.

Me
Thanks for the nightmare with that line

James
This causes the Internet to go into a frenzy because apparently this kills Cole's heat. And I'm like, it's a show with a 0.8 rating on a Tuesday. Nobody watches it anyways. So what the fuck.
Me
We know the WWE is shopping this show, but the only channel that would pick it up is G4 at this rate, since all they broadcast is crap, and Ninja Warrior

James
They think Bravo will pick it up.
I think it lacks enough cooking and/or homosexuals.
Not that there's anything wrong with either, just saying, Bravo's the gay channel in the US.

Me
I hate to say this, but I don't know a single gay male who watches Bravo

James
This would indicate that you know gay males. What do they watch? I'm assuming they just have Logo on 24/7. I know that can't be right. I'm bi and I never watch that channel.

Me
I'm bi too and I don't know what the hell Logo is
I'm on ESPN constantly
Somedays I swear I'm not bi due to my sports obsession

James
Umm...What should we talk about next...

Me
UFC is doing a massive night on Spike tomorrow

James
That's right TUF 12 debuts. And there's a UFN show.

Me
Also, doesn't their video game launch as well?

James
On Psp. Game's already out on PS3 and XBox.

Me
Ok, the PSP is a system I want to die, regardless of the number of awesome Metal Gear games on it
But I digress. The Silva/Sonnen fight has me on the UFC bus

James
Actually lets talk about TUF 12 first, what do you think about this season in a nutshell?

Me
I like the selection of St-Pierre and Koscheck as coaches

James
Only problem I have is, what's GSP going to say for 12 weeks?
Koscheck will talk up a storm. I'm sure.

Me
Let him. Perhaps GSP saying as little as possible won't be the worst thing in the world

James
That's the weird thing about GSP, like he's this huge draw. And he doesn't talk much and he still has charisma like mad. He's probably my pick for Most Charismatic in the Observer Awards this season.

Me
Not a bad pick for one, and for two, a man who can say nothing and have the masses follow him is special

James
And then Silva Sonnen II was announced for Super Bowl weekend. That'll be in Las Vegas. I love the fact that we get this match again because now Sonnen can really go all out on his promos.

Me
He can totally do that. Then again he could learn to defend himself against a bloody submission and win the fight this time too. Just a small helpful suggestion

James
SEE, that's pretty much why I think Sonnen's gonna lose again. Like, unless he's fighting someone who really sucks on the ground like Yushin OKami, or a head case like Paulo Filho there's no way in a 25 minute fight he won't get submitted.
10:18pm

Me
And that's a damn shame. A real shame, because I was rooting my head off for Sonnen to win fight number 1, and if he can't figure this out, he's going to lose number 2
Also, off topic by a mile, I may have to go see The Town next week at some point

James
Oh really? Why is this?

Me
Because they just did an extended trailer on ESPN which explained the idea a hell of a lot better than any other trailer for it I've seen
Plus Ben Affleck is a good actor in the right role. This looks like one of them

James
You know I saw the trailer for that when I watched...Inception? Yeah.
And I thought...this looks like the poor mans' Departed.
It's like Ben Affleck went "Matt Damon got to do the Departed and I didn't, I'm gonna make my own Departed...with gambling...and strippers.

Me
Wait a minute
And then he said forget the gambling?

James
And the movie.

Me
I had a hunch you'd say that

James
Umm, one final note on MMA Matt Hughes Vs. BJ Penn III signed for...
UFC 123.
In Detroit.

Me
I need a calender to circle that date
Is the UFC doing a charity show for all the unemployed people?

James
That might be the only way they sell tickets at this rate, but with that and Rampage Vs. Lyoto I think they can at least sell out most of the building.
So there we go Detroit, do you remember the last time UFC was in Detroit BTW?

Me
I was probably living in Maryland, and I moved from there in 2003

James
UFC 9.

Me
Yeah, I was living in Maryland
Hell, I was probably still in elementary school or going into middle school

James
UFC 9 was best known for the shittiest title fight in MMA history not involving Sean Sherk with Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock circling each other for 30 minutes.
It took him yelling at Tito Ortiz to be a draw again.

Me
Thank you John McCain for fucking something else up. Leave it to a Republican to fuck up a simple concept

James
And finally we should mention this before we go.
Kevin Nash went nutty on Twitter this past week.

Me
How nutty? I've heard of some extreme levels due to football players
And I'm watching the male Cincinnati Reds mascot admonish the play by play guy for dancing with the female mascot

10:31pmJames
...The Reds have two mascots?
That makes me hate them even more.

Me
Yes they do. The male one has a ridiculous mustache too as well.
Sorry about that, did I throw you off the crazy train?

James
Yep! But anyways...
So Nash went nutty on Twitter after a night of wind drinking and buried TNA.
And RVD.
He said his last day is after Bound For Glory and after that he's done.

James
Not surprisingly, TNA expects to re-sign him.

Me
TNA also seems to think I give a crap about their product, and Team 3D is a great tag team still

James
You apparently give more of a fuck than the writing crew does.
They really don't seem to care. Impact has gotten worse than thunder.

Me
That's not possible
It can be as bad, but not worse
You can't be worse than the worst

James
Iowa, it's Vince Russo, does it really matter at the end of the day?

Me
Insert standard answer here

James
It's like saying the dog shit I cleaned up yesterday is better than the dog shit I cleaned up in 1999.
Besides I can't watch them anymore, they're down in the South. I hate the South. --->>>> WAT? editor's note

Me
TNA used to be a hell of a company
I can't watch them anymore because I have a brain

James
I remember back in the day.
It was 2005.
When every PPV was awesome. Because Scott D'Amore wasn't retarded.
But yeah Nash said on Twitter and I quote...
"in my prime I was selling out 30,000-plus seat domes." And then he went on about how RVD and Hardy couldn't draw 1,000.
Might I add you.
The only show Nash was on that did 30,000 was the Georgia Dome show that was mostly sold out a month before the show and before any matches were announced.

Me
Also, this is coming from a man who was a nobody in this business until Shawn Michaels saw him and VKM had his big man fetish take over
James
"Worst Drawing Champion ever? BS! Nash, go out there and wrestle Mable for 20 minutes!?

Me
Ah Mable, still the worst "wrestler" to ever win the King of the Ring
Also, have you been watching NXT tonight?

James
I have not I'll probably watch a few minutes of if before I pass out next to Lyn.

Me
Well let me spoil the best part. Cole just quit NXT

James
WHAT?

Me
Yes. They went with a shitty gong show ripoff, he gonged himself, claimed the show degraded him, and walked off
Joey Styles is not available for comment as he's throwing a party

James
Show killed.
Right there...

Me
I'm amazed it was still on the air after Cole gonged himself. Also, Cole has a Facebook page, and the idiots are already leaving comments

James
Do you remember when Matt Hardy had his MySpace bombarded by marks after he turned heel on Jeff?

Me
Yes. Nothing like social networking to expose the mass stupidity of the wrestling fanbase
James
Well that's it for the news. Iowa any last thoughts before we go?

Me
I have a couple. I hate Michael Cole, Daniel Bryan is my enemy because he's a Seahawk fan, NXT is going to die which makes me happy, Vince Russo and Michelle McCool are still the two biggest idiots in all of wrestling, which isn't a change, but I would like to say one thing that may shock you and everyone else

James
Alright. Go.

Me
If I have my choice of anyone to win the six pack challenge at Night of Champions, I want Sheamus to win and get out of the event with the belt, or have Miz cash in and win the belt, and hold it for a year, maybe more

10:50pmJames
Really?
Why Miz?

Me
Because perhaps Mr. Miz doing reality TV was actually a good thing after all. He knew how to talk on TV, and got more practice with it than anyone else in the WWE right now
Hell, everytime Miz talks, I put down my remote and listen, because he just gets how to do it

James
You know who else has experience with Reality TV?

Matt Hardy.
Me
Matt Hardy has experience with Taco Bell drive thru lanes at 2 am too

James
And on that note, we move on. Thanks Iowa.

Me
Of course. Always willing, ready, and able to do this again, if you need a willing victim, or if D needs a nap

PURO TALK MOTHERFUCKERS.

sullivangate: Hey Wolf.
Wolf: Good evening
sullivangate: What do you think is worse.
The new Fire Pro game that was announced or half of the Noah roster being injured?
Wolf: Half the NOAH roster being injured it fucks up the cards for the tour and causes booking problems what ever they've done to fuck up Fire Pro can be fixed It has delayed a lot of angles and pretty much caused them to drop back on the Week day venues to Zepps and hotel halls they get at half price

sullivangate: It's kind of funny because the big injuries are obviously Kobashi and Akiyama. Which is really insane because they are by far the biggest draws the company has and they are way past their primes. With guys liek Morishima and Marufuji not getting over as much as Noah would have hoped for. And seeing as Mori is in the 350 range I would assume he's gonna have knee problems pretty much for the rest of his career.
Wolf: It's a foot injury from what I can gather Plus right now Sugi isn't drawingGo seems like the best of the crop but he needs someone else there with him which is why they should recombine Suwama could play Tenryu to Go's Jumbo then when Marufuji gets back if ever decides to pull the trigger on being a Heavy he can become something like what Misawa was Also I don't think Marufuji is totally failing to get over He's just stuck at high end Jr. level Rikioh is the real failure

sullivangate: He always has been hasn't he? His title run didn't draw well.

Wolf: Yes and no, as a singles wrestler he is a failure but he's been medicore in Tags his whole career

sullivangate: A hell of a resume there.

Wolf: Seriously Also NOAH's problems couldn't come at worse time really Sumo is dying mma is dead, the dynimite shows are the only draws anymore. and Wrestling limps along without clear direction

sullivangate: Speaking of MMA. I actually have to tell you this. You win. I officially hate MMA right now.

Wolf: the Coture freakshow did it, didn't it?

sullivangate: No, suprisingly. Last night there was a fight with Nate Mardquardt and someone. Marquardt slipped out of a heel hook and the opponent claimed he was greased. And as he was talking to the ref Marquardt pounced on him. And really, everybody looked like a fucking geek. The Ref, Marquardt, the opponent. And um...I snapped. And I threw the remote across the room and yelled at the earth and all it's creatures and as such MMA can suck me. Blow me. I have no idea why this happened until just now.

Wolf: ah a moment of white rage

sullivangate: Let's talk about Dragon Gate real quick. The latest PPV debuted this past week. Did you watch it?

Wolf: No, provider refuses to tell me when it comes on so I'm a month behind plus I'm not a fan of them including Gabe's indy losers

sullivangate: I actually wanted to mention that. Because I did watch it and the two main complaints I had were that I wasn't too big a fan of the Indy guys Gabe sneaked on.

Wolf: agreed

sullivangate: But the other is that, when the main event happened it was BxB Hulk Vs. Massaki Mochizuki. And the main event style in Dragon Gate for singles matches is very different from the style I think a lot of people expect from them. Because a lot of the main events they almost work a quasi 90's All Japan style. And The crowd was not up for this at all and it hurt the main event a lot.

Wolf: And really that's a poor reflection of the indy crowds. Dragon Gate's best match of the year so far has been Yamato vs. Yoshino and I know there are a ton of people that would hate it because it's not A a spotfest or B a sports entertainment drama expo and really that's the biggest issue with the current indy fanbase they either want super unrealistic spot, spot spot or a shit ton of ridiculous angles

sullivangate: Dragon Gate also ran in the U.K. this past weekend and they drew 700 fans which by far is the best an indy group has done in the U.K. in forever since 1PW closed down.

Wolf.: I read Alan's review on DVDVR Sounded like a great show

sullivangate: Wolf, It's Alan. He woke today and gave the day seven and a half stars.

Wolf: shhhh Marks are critical

sullivangate: True.

Wolf: it's like hating on Gordi for his Osaka love he knows them, he lives in the city and he is one of their loyals he's going to over blow everything but it's good he's there and it's nice to read someone happy with the product

sullivangate: Both NOAH and New Japan are running Jr. Tag tournaments I think within days of each other. Thoughts on the tournaments and anything you expect from them?

Wolf: On NOAH's end I expect them to either pull the trigger on Aoki's fued with KENTA and them to either give the shot to Kensuke Office's team with NJPW it seems like their going to promote Omega and Ibushi so I expect them to either Take it or at least final. also looking around the listing it seems like the KO team will be the winners to me so that either was useless I also hope Marufuji buries team ROH

sullivangate: And why is that? Unabashed hate for indy promotions?

Wolf: it's like Cornette and fast food workerswe don't get along we don't interact much and if you fuck up what I want I'm pulling them out of the window and choking them
also because it's Rodrick strong and eddie edwards two bland guys that smack people and somehow their still not the worst team on the tourney because somewhere in his infinate wisdom Marufuji decided that it was worth it for Evans to also book Extreme Tiger

sullivangate: I always used to think Roderick Strong is the blandest guy in Wrestling. And then I saw Eddie Edwards.

Wolf: Somehow they make Jeff Jarrett look like he has Kobashi level charisma

sullivangate: Kojima recently pinned Makabe in a tag match to set up thier title match at Sumo Hall. What do you think of that match?

Wolf: Makabe has really been pulling out some fantastic matches like his match with Nakamura in Alpha was awesome and he and Go had something great in Osaka with Kojima motavated again, especially with the excellent match against Tanahashi, I am very interested in this one. the only real problem is if Kojima gets it the only challenger he has is Nakamura because he blew through Goto and Tanahashi in the G-1 and worst still Kojima got Goand Go just got done killing Nakamura in the last Colissum show

sullivangate: I don't see Kojima winning the belt.
It's like, he's 40, and he's a big star, the smart thing would to have him put Makabe over.

Wolf: I think it hinges on this Sumo Hall and what the crowd wants so far NJPW has been able to keep the outside Tokyo markets alive still they want that Tokyo market and right now it's still NOAH's so if they can get someone Tokyo buys into then run them against Shiozaki it might give them the market back

sullivangate: Chikara is running two shows this weekend with Manami Toyota. Talk a bit about Toyota for those who don't know of Toyota's work and when she meant/means to Puro.

Wolf: Manami Toyota is the Ace of AJW's in the 90s. She was the best highflyer alive in her prime and one of the biggest draws ever. She was not originally meant to be Ace But because she out preformed Akira Sasaki in a singles match Baba decided to go with her as Ace Her match with Toshiyo Yamada is one of the best matches in wrestling history and her feud Kyoko Inoue is one of the top fueds of the 90s to her credit she invented Japanese Ocean series of moves, including the Star Drop probably the hardest move ever.

sullivangate: I remember the hair match her and Yamada had which Meltzer watched live. And he said that at the time that was the most dramatic match he had ever seen partcularly with the ending and then what happened after the match with Toyota not wanting Yamada's hair to be cut.

Wolf.: To me that is the sum of Japanese wrestling The gimmick means less than the honest human emotion coming from the people in the ring and because the quality of the bouts are so high they don't need the cages with chains or the multi man scramble bouts to fill a half hour They can do it simply with what they know

sullivangate: Is it fair to say there will never be another woman on the level of Toyota in ring wise?

Wolf: I don't want to say something like that if only because it would mean I'm closing the book on women in wrestling but I will say that she is the messuring stick right now

sullivangate: We are almost out of time but before we go I put out the call on Facebook for questions for you and I got a couple. Thoughts on Mariko Yoshida?

Wolf: She is someone who really was cut short by her neck injury in the early part ogf her career. I feel that a lot of times Baba wrote off the injury prone too quickly in his booking. In Arsion she was Ace but it was too little too late by '97 as the general popularity of Joshi began to shrink in Ibuki she has a lot of stuff to do but she like many others can't find the right person to make a star

sullivangate: I've always been a fan of hers since I started watching Joshi, and I was somewhat amazed that after the injury she was able to come back with a totally new style and be able to continue working as good as she did.
or does.

Wolf: Her come back and revamping is something I wish more people would consider.
In Japan the "I do" philsophy works only when you're young and can rebound when you get up there in years slowing down and revamping slightly can save you years in the ring.

sullivangate: This one's from Fire, Now that Davey Richards is going to be a regular for New Japan Is New Japan booking him to be the next challenger for Prince Devitt's IWGP JR Title?

Wolf: I really hope not. Yes the Omega Devitt bout drew a K-hall but both of those men are huge babyfaces that spent years over there to get where they are. To throw Richards in there, if he beats Kanemoto, would be suicidal for the event to me as I don't think it'd draw given that Devitt needs outsiders to get where he is now.And ROH is not NOAH or DDT

sullivangate: Lyn just handed me a few. How did you become such a fan of Liger? Was it the look, the in ring work or both/something else?

Wolf: To be completely honest it was the match with Owen where he suplexed him to the outside. For years in my life it was foregone that the spot would lead to the inside man hitting the suplex when Liger hit that on Owen it grabbed my attention and held it there until the DDT spot. From there I had to see everything he did to see if there was anything else he did/was going to do that would be revolutionary for me. This lead to me understanding more about Pro wrestling than I had in each match Liger has he puts a little spin on something and that is what makes me a fan of his.

sullivangate: Two more. With Kojima being a freelancer what is the difference in pay between a freelancer or being contracted with a company for a main draw like Kojima. Would the wrestler just set a price regardless of contractual status and if so what benefits are there to being a freelancer?

Wolf: Personally I believe the freelancer thing is a work and he's fully contracted with NJPW. As for the difference in pay I remember reading somewhere that it's a per appearance payscale they run, like with Takayama or Kensuke, verus a lump sum of money contracted with the company recieve. As for benifits I believe the biggest one is the ability to work elsewhere during down time for quick cash.

sullivangate: Finally this person wants to ask you, actually this is kind of a personal question. Thoughts on going to Sam's wedding and meeting Ted DiBiase?

Wolf: It was fun, Ted was much more humoring than I thought he would be. He is a huge Harley Race mark and truely believes that Psychology is the most important thing in wrestling.
He believes that Japanese wrestling understands action better than anywhere else
But the issue is the people hate to let go of their top guys
hence why Kobashi is still the biggest name over there.

sullivangate: Well Wolf I want to thank you for doing this and perhaps we can do this like once a month from now on or once every couple of months for the newsletter. Anything you wish to plug before we go?

Wolf Watch more Japanese wrestling, go to the Puro/Lucha thread for links to other matches and results. Thank you for the opportunity and I'd enjoying being a guest anytime you wish to have me.
